Profile: Sean and Kate Covich
When MSU alumni Sean and Kate Covich met and started dating after college, one of their connections was a strong love for their alma mater. Now married for five years and parents to 1-year-old son Keenan, the couple is living a maroon and white dream.
The Covichs always enjoyed visits to campus, and when Sean decided to pop the question, he chose the Drill Field as the perfect setting. When the wedding day came about, the Chapel of Memories was where they said "I do."
Sean, who grew up in Meridian, is a lifelong Bulldog fan. He also grew up with a love for golf, handed down from his father who played professionally and has spent a career in golf course management. Sean graduated in 2003 from MSU with a degree in sports communication, and in 2005 he finished his master's degree in sports administration.
Now starting his third year as assistant men's golf coach for the Bulldogs, Sean also enjoys taking the family to football, volleyball, baseball, men's and women's basketball and soccer games throughout the year, adding that there is almost always a sporting event and good entertainment for families in Starkville.
The family spent two weeks in Omaha cheering on the Diamond Dawgs during the College World Series.
"I love Mississippi State, and I love being able to recruit kids to the place that I love," Sean said. In his coaching role, the summer months are an especially busy time for traveling all over to find future Bulldogs who share a love and skill for golf.
Kate, a Bay Springs native, is a 2005 MSU communication graduate who went on to the University of Alabama for a master's degree in communication. Now pursuing her doctoral degree from the University of Southern Mississippi, she teaches communication studies and public relations courses at MSU.
"I love being able to give back in the classroom to the university and people that I feel like invested in me," Kate said.Writer: Allisson Matthews | Photo: Russ Houston
