  1. Mississippi State is ranked among the top 100 by Washington Monthly College Guide and Rankings. The publication rates schools based on their contribution to the public good in three broad categories: Social Mobility (recruiting and graduating low-income students), Research (producing cutting-edge scholarship and PhDs), and Service (encouraging students to give something back to their country).

  2. The Mississippi State Alumni Association continues to establish membership records, with more than 39,000 active members in 2010. Founded in 1885, the association has 91 chapters.

  3. Four of nine Mississippi Supreme Court justices, including the chief justice, are MSU graduates. They include Chief Justice William L. "Bill" Waller Jr., 1974; Presiding Justice George C. Carlson Jr., 1969; Associate Justice Jess H. Dickinson, 1978; and Associate Justice David A. Chandler, 1972, 1974 and 1988.

  5. Seven Mississippi State graduates are presidents of state community colleges.

  6. About one-fourth of the teachers and administrators in Mississippi public schools hold at least one degree from Mississippi State.
