Presidential Search
June 24, 2008
Dear Mississippi State University Family,
As promised, I want to keep you up-to-date with the search for your next president.
Last Friday, the Search Advisory Committee for the next president of Mississippi State, chaired by Dr. Bill Kibler, vice president for student affairs, met for an orientation with search consultant Mr. Jerry Baker and me to discuss the important role the Search Advisory Committee will play throughout the search process. As you know, the Search Advisory Committee is responsible for reviewing all applications and nominations and forwarding no less than five names to the Board Search Committee for interviews. In addition, a number of members from the Search Advisory Committee will join the Board and participate throughout the entire interview process.
During the orientation, Mr. Baker stressed the importance of candidate nominations, an important aspect of any presidential search. Mr. Baker takes nominations made by the MSU family very seriously, and encouraged the Search Advisory Committee to send him names of persons they feel would be a good fit for the position. I encourage you to do the same by emailing Mr. Baker or calling him at 770-395-2760 if you know of anyone you feel would be a good fit for the institution.
Next steps in the process include the finalization of the position description, which should be complete soon. When it is completed, I will send it to you. As always, for the most up-to-date information on the search, visit the MSU presidential search site. In addition, you are always welcome to email me or Trustee Scott Ross, Chair of the MSU Board Search Committee.
I'll be in touch!
Sincerely,
Dr. Thomas C. Meredith
Commissioner of Higher Education
