About this event

Experimental archaeology enlightens archaeologists and researchers about the man-hours, problems, techniques, dangers and solutions related to ancient arts, crafts and technologies. Unbaked mud-brick has been used in a variety of ways for centuries, allowing villages, towns and empires to be built. Led by Angelos Papadopoulos, this workshop will introduce participants to an ancient "recipe" that has produced strong, ready-to-use bricks from soil, sand and water with a spice of thatch. Papadopoulos holds a bachelor's in archaeology from the University of Bournemouth and a master's in archaeology from the Institute of Archaeology at University College London. After receiving his doctorate from the University of Liverpool, he was employed by the Department of Antiquities in Cyprus. Papadopoulos has contributed to a number of research projects in Greece, Cyprus and the United Kingdom and has worked on museum exhibitions, excavations and various publications. Currently, he is teaching at the Open University of Cyprus and the Hellenic Open University.
