About this event

In this fun workshop at Mississippi State's Crosby Arboretum, award-winning photographer Diana Thornton will show participants how to get their DSLR camera out of auto mode! Topics of discussion include essential everyday controls and settings, the Exposure Triangle (aperture/shutter speed/ISO), lenses and how they affect exposure, depth of field and composition, file types/sizes, white balance, composition and developing an “eye" for photography. With decades of experience in graphic design, photography, book design, genealogy and computers, Thornton holds a bachelor’s in anthropology and photography minor from the University of Pittsburgh and a master’s in anthropology/underwater archaeology and photography minor from Texas A&M University. Weather permitting, the program will consist of an outside photo walk. Instruction will not be camera or brand specific. Participants should bring a camera, charged batteries, memory card, extra lenses, walking shoes and bug spray. Space is limited to six students, so registration is required before August 3. Additional Information
With increasing value being placed on our natural heritage, the Crosby Arboretum in Picayune is the premier native plant conservatory in the Southeast. The arboretum was established as a living memorial to L.O. Crosby Jr. (1907-78) and has expanded to become a resource for education in the region and world. Today, it provides for the protection of the region's biological diversity and serves as a place for the public's enjoyment of plant species native to the Pearl River Drainage Basin of south-central Mississippi and Louisiana.
