Retirement Reception for Darrel Schmitz

Mississippi State University's Department of Geosciences is hosting a reception to celebrate the retirement of colleague Darrel Schmitz, who has been an integral part of the department for the last 28 years, including serving as department head from 2004 to 2012. Schmitz has worked tirelessly as a classroom teacher both on campus and online, and he most recently has re-developed MSU's Geology Field School. During his tenure at the university, Schmitz has mentored more than 50 graduate and 300 undergraduate students in professional geology and environmental geology fields. He is well-known for his work in the field of hydrogeology, as well as his contributions to geologic mapping of Mississippi, including co-authorship of the book "Roadside Geology of Mississippi."
