Mississippi State's Department of Anthropology and Middle Eastern Cultures and its Cobb Institute of Archaeology are sponsoring a free lecture by Debra L. Martin, distinguished professor of anthropology at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Open to the public, Martin's lecture is titled "The Violence of Males and Masculinity in Early Small Scale Societies." The event is part of Mississippi Archaeology Month, which is held each October to inform the public about the wonderful archaeological heritage of Mississippi and the world.
