Submission Deadline: Paper Proposals for Interdisciplinary Forum Workshop Series

December 5, 2018

About this event

Today [Dec. 5] is the deadline to submit a paper proposal for the Mississippi State Institute for the Humanities Interdisciplinary Forum Workshop Series. Mississippi State faculty in the sciences, humanities and social sciences and who are at any stage of a research project may submit a proposal, as well as attend the forum. The theme of the forum is "Communicating Truth: Evidence, Interpretation, Perception and Power." Papers are welcome to explore this theme as a topic or as an issue of practice, as well as the more general theme of appearances versus reality. Proposals can address the following questions: How does your research reveal truth or fact, and how may it be seen as dependent on interpretation? What major challenges does your research present for the goal of an understanding on the part of the general public? Does your research work in tandem or in tension with more general understanding of your subject matter? In other words, what are you working on and what are your challenges in communicating your findings? Paper proposals must be no more than 400 words in length and should explain the subject of the work to be presented and what the presenter would like to get from the forum. Paper proposals should be sent to humanities@msstate.edu. An interdisciplinary board of five people will review the proposals and select papers for presentations, which will occur throughout the spring 2019 semester. Presenters will submit papers a week before their presentation date, so they can be uploaded and available to all MSU faculty on the interdisciplinary "portal" for easy sharing.
