'Women and Writing in History and English'

February 1, 2020
9:00 am to 3:00 pm

About this event

MSU’s College of Arts and Sciences and the university’s Institute for the Humanities are presenting a free workshop providing secondary teachers of social studies and English with continuing education units, while also informing them about the roles of women in history.

Beginning at 9 a.m. in McCool Hall Room 213, MSU Assistant Professor of History Courtney Thompson will lead a session exploring women’s history and how to incorporate women into history curricula. Using the information from Thompson’s workshop as the springboard for examples and exercises, MSU Assistant Professor of English Miller will explore responsive versus reactive reading, how to make effective comments on student papers, create rubrics, help struggling writers, and grade efficiently.

Participants will have opportunities to ask questions, clarify ideas and plan lessons in a group setting for use in the classroom. In addition to a complimentary lunch, attendees will receive a packet of primary sources and materials for writing instruction. While the workshop is free, the CEUs are $20 for each teacher.
