Brenner to lead education initiatives for MSU Office of Research and Economic Development
Devon Brenner will be joining the Office of Research and Economic Development at Mississippi State as assistant to the vice president for education initiatives in mid-May. For the past year, the head of the curriculum, instruction and special education department in the university's College of Education has been an Education Policy Fellow in the office of U.S. Sen. Thad Cochran, R-Miss., in Washington, D.C.

MSU historian examines evolution of income tax in Britain
Almost exactly 200 years ago, the British House of Commons rejected a peacetime income tax. Henry Brougham, a Whig member of Parliament, mobilized public opinion against the tax, and after a raucous debate in the Commons, his side won by 37 votes. This revolt against the government that had led Britain to victory over Napoleon barely a year before, and the government’s response, marked an important turning point. It shows that Britain’s path to military and economic preeminence in the 19th century was far from smooth, for this was a time of social upheaval and political conflict. Taxation became a flashpoint for controversy.

MSU Riley Center tickets for individual shows go on sale Monday [Feb. 22], and there is something for everyone. A farewell to an icon, a hello to some energetic newcomers and lots of heartwarming rock ’n’ roll memories will highlight the 2016 spring/summer series. The center’s restored Victorian theater will also host the world’s best dancers, one of the most powerful voices in country music, and the returns of both an intimate songwriters showcase and a beloved children’s character.
