Panhellenic Council announces special homecoming competitions for students, faculty and staff

The Panhellenic Council at Mississippi State is planning several special events for the university's "Under the Big Top: Maroon and White Edition"-themed homecoming Oct. 15-20.

Departments and colleges, student organizations, fraternity and sorority chapters, and residence hall councils are invited to compete in a door decorating competition. You can decorate the entrance to your office or the door leading into your building. Please make sure to have building managers sign off on your decorations. If you are a student organization having trouble locating a door or window to decorate, please contact us and we will assign you a door to decorate. For our fraternity and sorority chapters with on-campus houses, we are hosting a house/lawn display competition.
All door decorations/house or lawn displays must be completed by Tuesday [Oct. 17] at 5 p.m. The door decorating competition will be divided into four categories: Campus Departments/Colleges, Student Organizations, Fraternity & Sorority chapters, and Residence Hall Councils. There will be a separate competition for fraternity and sorority chapters participating in decorating their house or lawns.
The Panhellenic Council will also be hosting its annual banner contest. Each student organization will be given the opportunity to create a banner for Homecoming 2017 that will be placed in the stadium for the duration of Homecoming Week. The Homecoming Committee will provide blank banners for the banner competition, and they may be picked up by Thursday [Oct. 5] in the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life, Suite 300 in Colvard Student Union. All banners must be completed by Tuesday [Oct. 17] at 5 p.m.
If your department or student organization is interested in signing up for this year's festivities, please fill out the interest form at The interest form will also provide you with a list of guidelines and judging criteria for each competition.
All winners will be announced at the 2017 Homecoming football game on Saturday [Oct. 21] against Kentucky, which kicks off at 3 p.m. The winning group in each category — Door Decorating, Banner, and House or Lawn Display — will receive a pizza party for their office or organization or $500 credit to Event Services/Union Operations.
