MSU Biological Sciences Ambassadors sponsor gift card, children’s book drive for Blair E. Batson patients, families

Mississippi State University’s Biological Sciences Ambassadors are accepting donations through Nov. 30 for a book and gift card donation drive benefiting the children and families of Blair E. Batson Hospital for Children in Jackson.

Per the hospital’s infection control policy, donated children’s books must be new. Gift card donations to such locations as Subway, McDonald’s, Walmart, iTunes, Hobby Lobby and Michaels also are appreciated.

Books and gift cards can be dropped off in Office 118 at Harned Hall, 295 Lee Blvd., Mississippi State, MS 39762. Donations also can be mailed to Campus Mailstop 9536, ATTN: Michael Black.

Cash, as well as check donations payable to the MSU Foundation, also are being accepted and will be used to purchase books and gift cards. Such donations can be mailed to Department of Biological Sciences, ATTN: Michael Black, PO Box GY, Mississippi State, MS 39762.

The Biological Sciences Ambassadors will personally deliver gift cards and books Dec. 8 to Blair E. Batson patients and their families.

“This is an opportunity to show the state of Mississippi the true heart of what Mississippi State University is all about—service and community,” said Michael Black, Biological Sciences Ambassadors adviser.

Chosen from nearly 30 applicants, the 10 inaugural Biological Sciences Ambassadors together represent the first student ambassador organization in the Department of Biological Sciences’ long history within the College of Arts and Sciences. The group assists the department with on-campus recruiting events, community service projects, and alumni relations throughout the academic year.
