MSU Libraries, Cotesworth Culture and Heritage Center conclude ‘land and literature’ series with Dec. 3 program

STARKVILLE, Miss.—Mississippi State University Libraries and the Cotesworth Culture and Heritage Center are hosting their final “Mississippi Land and Literature” event at 2:30 p.m. Sunday [Dec. 3] in North Carrollton.

Free to all, “Bicentennial Review of the Judiciary and Legal Profession” is part of a special programming series commemorating the Magnolia State’s rich agrarian and literary heritage. MSU’s Division of Agriculture, Forestry and Veterinary Medicine also is a sponsor of the official bicentennial project, made possible by a grant from the Mississippi Humanities Council, with support from the Mississippi Development Authority.

During his talk, Mississippi Supreme Court Chief Justice William L. “Bill” Waller Jr. will focus on influential figures in the legal and judicial profession throughout Mississippi’s history, as well as landmark legal cases.

“The Mississippi Land and Literature series focuses on the rich cultural heritage of our state. Our legal history is a part of this cultural heritage, as it influences virtually every aspect of the lives of Mississippians and certainly every period of our history,” said Sarah McCullough, MSU Libraries coordinator of cultural heritage projects. “We are honored to have Chief Justice Waller present an insightful program.”

To visit the Cotesworth Culture and Heritage Center, take Highway 82 and exit onto Highway 17 into Carrollton. From the square, follow the signs to the center, which is located at 6151 Highway 17 North in North Carrollton.
