Brittany Brown, a senior biological sciences major from Columbus, digs through soil at the Hester Archaeological Site near Amory. The dig is part of the Department of Anthropology and Middle Eastern Culture's Excavation Field School, where students learn the basics of conducting archaeological excavation, using and creating spatial data, artifact identification and geoarchaeological methods. The site contains one of the few stratified Late Pleistocene and Early Holocene sites in eastern North America.
