Malcolm White will present the annual Dr. William L. and Jean P. Giles Memorial Lecture at the School of Architecture's Recognition Day Ceremony. A resident of Jackson, White was director of Visit Mississippi from 2013-2015 and earlier served as executive director of the Mississippi Arts Commission from 2005-2013. A graduate of the University of Mississippi and the University of Southern Mississippi, he now is owner of the iconic Jackson restaurant, Hal & Mal’s. As director at Visit Mississippi, White rebranded the organization and raised the state’s profile through aggressive advertising. He also implemented the Year of the Creative Economy, a comprehensive and multifaceted yearlong promotion highlighting Mississippi’s creative economy. He is founder of Mal’s St. Paddy’s Parade and author of "Little Stories," a collection of
