Mississippi State University's Meridian campus is recognizing more than 100 candidates for degrees at its spring commencement ceremony. Meridian Community College President Scott Elliott will serve as the graduation speaker. A native of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Elliott has more than 33 years of experience in community college administration, the past 20 of those spent at the local community college, where he began his tenure in September 1998. He will retire from MCC this summer. In 2014, Elliott was recognized by Phi Theta Kappa International as a recipient of the prestigious Shirley B. Gordon Distinguished Service Award, and he recently received the organization’s Michael Bennett Lifetime Achievement Award. Before entering higher education, Elliott worked as a professional journalist winning more than 45 awards in Associated Press and regional press association writing competitions.
