STARKVILLE, Miss.—The MSU Foundation welcomes a new director of development for the College of Arts and Sciences this month. Sara Frederic, a Mississippi State University alumna, will lead fundraising efforts for the college beginning today [Aug. 1].

An Aberdeen native, Frederic earned an Associate of Arts degree in broadcast communication from Meridian Community College in 2006 before continuing her higher education at MSU. From the land-grant institution, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in communication with a concentration in public relations in 2008 and two master’s degrees, an MBA and a master’s of sport administration, in 2010 and 2011 respectively.

Frederic joins Mississippi State from the healthcare field, where she most recently served as strategic projects and communications manager for Blue Cross & Blue Shield in Jackson. Prior to joining BCBS in 2011, she held a slate of internships, including one with Learfield Sports Properties, and another with MSU Athletics media relations. She also was the lead graduate assistant for the university’s Office of Athletic Academics for several years.

“We are pleased to welcome Sara as an integral part of our fundraising team,” said Jack McCarty, the MSU Foundation’s executive director of development. “Her valuable experience, coupled with a deep appreciation of Mississippi State, will serve her immensely as she works with constituents on behalf of the university.”

Frederic has a well-established history of service with MSU, having been vice president of public relations for the Master’s of Business Administration Association and president of Phi Kappa Theta honor society. As a graduate, she is a member of the MSU Alumni Association’s Central Mississippi Chapter board.

In her new professional role, Frederic will further the tradition of excellence at MSU through the ongoing capital campaign, Infinite Impact.

“I’m honored to be placed in a position to help advance Mississippi State and secure gifts through the College of Arts and Sciences,” Frederic said. “By working as part of the MSU Foundation, I can enjoy an exciting new experience that enables me to help increase the value of the institution that I love.”

The College of Arts and Sciences is the largest of the academic colleges at MSU, with more than 5,000 students and 300 faculty members. The college provides its students with 24 academic major areas that fall within 14 different departments.
