Thomasson Lumber CEO to give 2017 MSU Carlton N. Owen lecture

STARKVILLE, Miss. —The chief executive officer of Philadelphia-based Thomasson Lumber is this year’s guest for Mississippi State’s 2017 Carlton N. Owen Lecture Series.

Pat Thomasson will lead the Tuesday [Oct. 17] public program. Her presentation, titled “Assets in the Wood Industry: Planting for the Future,” begins at 10:30 a.m. in the Franklin Center, Room 115.

Early in her career she held positions with Arthur Andersen in New Orleans and the Mississippi Secretary of State’s Security Division. In 1996, at the request of her family, Thomasson returned home to work in the family lumber business. She currently serves the company as CEO and chairman of the board.

Thomasson is past president of Mississippi Lumber Manufacturers Association and was named the 2014 Business Woman of the Year by the Mississippi Business Journal. She holds bachelor’s and master’s accounting degrees from the University of Mississippi. 

Established in 1972, Thomasson Lumber is a manufacturer, supplier and producer of wood utility poles, and ships to nearly every state in the continental U.S. and to more than 10 countries worldwide. The company is a certified Women’s Business Enterprise.

The Owen Lecture Series was established nearly two decades ago in MSU’s College of Forest Resources by the Greenville, South Carolina, resident and 1974 MSU graduate for whom it is named. The program focuses on natural resource conservation issues.
