DAFVM Spotlight Employee: Zack Ivy
After growing up on a soybean farm, Zack Ivy knew he wanted to make a career of working with crops. He continues to foster his love for agriculture today in his role as a research technician at the Northeast Mississippi Branch Experiment Station in Lee County. The work Ivy does ultimately benefits Mississippi farmers. He helps manage research plots for Dr. Normie Buehring, and the data collected there contributes to soybean and cotton variety trial information. He is also working with irrigation studies.

In her role as the office associate for the Mississippi State University Extension Service in Leflore County, Karen Moore has helped the Extension office run smoothly for 20 years. Although office tasks take up a large part of her workday, Moore said the best part about her job is working with the 4-H youth who come in and out of the office.

Temporary closure to Bell Island for vehicles
On May 11, Bell Island -- which includes Tracy Drive, Walker Road and a section of Lee Boulevard -- was closed to accommodate infrastructure improvements related to the construction of the new classroom building on Mississippi State University's Starkville campus. Tracy Drive is closed at the entrance to the Lloyd-Ricks-Watson Building gated parking lot. This closure is expected to remain in place through May 21.

The Mississippi State University Department of Communication and Theatre MSU will host a retirement party for Betty “Jo” Durst on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. in the John Grisham Room in Mitchell Memorial Library. Durst has provided 34 years of service to MSU.

Hui awarded Fulbright Fellowship to Norway
A member of Mississippi State's history faculty is receiving a prestigious Fulbright Fellowship that will take her to Norway in August. Assistant professor Alexandra E. "Alix" Hui will have a nine-month appointment at the Norwegian University for Science and Technology in Trondheim. She will be conducting research for a study on how field scientists listen to nature.
Moore named corporate fundraiser
Nathan A. Moore is being named to the new position of director of corporate and foundation relations at the Mississippi State University Foundation. In addition to leading the coordination and implementation of the major gifts area, he will serve as a liaison to various campus units while working to secure funds for the ongoing capital campaign.
Kight to serve as chief CVM fundraiser
Mississippi State alumnus Jimmy C. Kight is the new director of development for the university's College of Veterinary Medicine. Officially assuming fundraising responsibilities for the academic unit May 1, Kight moves from the College of Business, where he has served since 2010 as assistant director of development.
Luncheon celebrates research at Mississippi State
Fifty Mississippi State students, faculty and staff are 2014 selections for exceptional research and leadership honors. Honorees, their guests and senior administrators were in attendance at a campus awards luncheon late last month. "I personally appreciate your contributions to our university, our state and the nation," said MSU President Mark E. Keenum.
