STARKVILLE, Miss.--Mississippi State is among the top 75 best four-year college and university business schools in the nation for military personnel and veterans.

Listed at No. 16 in "Best for Vets: Business Schools 2015," the rankings were released this week by "Military Times," an independent news and information source on issues affecting the careers and personal lives of service members and their families. The publication is owned by Gannett Company Inc., the largest newspaper publisher in the U.S.

When conducting and scoring the third annual "Best for Vets: Business Schools" survey, "Military Times" compiled data focused on curricula and culture that cater to military veterans. Using a nearly 80-question analysis of a graduate business school's complete offerings for veterans, the survey also focused on cost in the context of military and veteran benefits, overall veteran policies and publicly available quality measures.

Sharon Oswald, dean of MSU's College of Business, said of the recognition, "The strength of our program is a tribute to the outstanding faculty who teach in it."

Concerning campus climate, the university's G.V. "Sonny" Montgomery Center for America's Veterans recently signed a partnership agreement with the U.S. Office of Veterans Affairs and the Jackson VA, making Mississippi State the first four-year institution in the nation to offer specialized health services not only to student veterans, but those in local communities as well. The partnership provides polytrauma services, including mental health services and physical, occupational and speech therapies.

Today, MSU offers Air Force ROTC, or Air Force Reserve Officers Training Corps, an educational program designed to give students the opportunity to become commissioned officers while completing their undergraduate degrees. Army ROTC also is offered and produces lieutenants for the active Army, National Guard, and U.S. Army Reserves.
