STARKVILLE, Miss.—A section of the Chadwick Lake walking track at Mississippi State University will be closed beginning March 1 for a stabilization project on the lake’s northwestern bank.

MSU’s Office of Planning, Design and Construction Administration is closing the small track segment through July to correct bank erosion with the installation of a lake wall.

According to MSU Construction Administrator Jacob Forrester, the lake will be lowered 5 to 6 feet below its current level for the wall’s construction.

“After the water drawdown is complete and the soil has dried to some extent, we will begin construction of the shoreline wall,” said Forrester.

He added that the one-mile exercise track will continue to be open, with the exception of the segment along the construction site.  The users will need to turn around at that segment for their safety while using the track.

Chadwick Lake walking track officially opened in the fall of 2013 with support from the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Mississippi Foundation. Part of the university’s “MSU on the Move” project, the track is operated through MSU’s Division of Student Affairs and the Department of Health Promotion and Wellness.
