The walkway on the north lawn of Allen Hall is being disrupted by construction, but the results will be well worth the current detour around MSU's iconic G.V. "Sonny" Montgomery bronze statue. The landmark is getting a fresh base while campus traffic is lower during the summer. Placed in 2005, the life-size bronze sculpture honors the former Student Association president, Mississippi National Guard major general and longtime U.S. House of Representatives member who earned praise—and the nickname "Mr. Veteran"—for his continuing work on behalf of programs to assist former service men and women.
