University Relations News Bureau (662) 325-3442 Contact: Maridith Geuder March 17, 2000

Ten juniors and seniors at Mississippi State University hold the top honors of a recent regional competition sponsored by the American Society of Landscape Architecture.

The student challenge involved development of a site improvement plan for a Gulf Coast resort. The intensive, four-hour design project was part of the ASLA's recent tri-state regional meeting in Bay St. Louis.

Jurors representing society chapters in Mississippi, Alabama and Louisiana selected first-, second- and third-place winners from among a total of eight teams.

The winning MSU landscape architecture majors include (by hometown):

BRANDON-Juniors Adam P. Jones and Jason G. King, both second place.

COLUMBUS-Junior Chris M. Cox, first place.

KENNER, La.-Senior Christopher Blanchard, first place.

MEMPHIS, Tenn.-Junior Marissa A. Mulhern, second place.

STARKVILLE-Seniors Meri A. Starks and Brian D. Templeton, both first place; and Christopher S. Pace and John Paul Portera, both second place.

NEW ALBANY-Junior Patrick M. Hickman, third place.
