Some 200 participants are expected April 18 and 19 in Raymond for the 34th annual Mississippi Water Resources Conference.
Organized by the Mississippi State University-based Mississippi Water Resources Research Institute, the gathering of professionals, students and interested citizens will take place at Hinds Community College's Eagle Ridge Conference Center.
A. Stanley Mieburg, deputy administrator for the federal Environmental Protection Agency's Atlanta office, will deliver this year's keynote address at 8:40 a.m. on the 18th. He is among some 60 speakers scheduled to cover virtually every area of water resource management or regulation during the Tuesday and Wednesday gathering.
The United States Department of Agriculture's swine management research program is one area being given special attention. Agriculture, water policy issues, fertilizer, and toxins are among other major program topic sessions.
In addition to the MSU-based research institute, the conference is co-sponsored by the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality's offices of Land and Water Resources and of Pollution Control; U.S. Geological Survey's Water Resources Division; and Mississippi Water Resources Association.
