Ann Bailey is the new director of housing and residence life at Mississippi State University.
The department's former assistant director, she assumed the position Aug. 1, pending formal approval by the state Board of Trustees, Institutions of Higher Learning.
A Birmingham, Ala., native, Bailey joined the university in 1993 as a graduate residence hall director. In 1994, she became the housing office's acting area coordinator, then spent two years as a graduate research assistant for the Division of Student Affairs. She returned to housing in 1997 as assistant director.
"Ann is an exceptional professional whose background, experience and attitude will make her successful in her new position," said Roy Ruby, vice president for student affairs.
Bailey holds a doctorate from MSU in higher education administration with an emphasis on student development. Before coming to Starkville, she completed a bachelor's degree in counseling and guidance from the University of Montevallo (Ala.) and a master's in higher education administration from Florida State University.
Mississippi State's department of housing and residence life oversees 13 residence halls and two on-campus apartment complexes with a combined capacity for nearly 4,000 students.
