Highlights from a Washington, D.C., tribute to retiring Rep. G.V. "Sonny" Montgomery (D-Miss.) will be featured Jan. 3 in a segment of Mississippi Educational Television's "First Friday" program.
"First Friday" airs at 10 p.m.
Included will be moments from the September gala hosted by Mississippi State University that recognized Montgomery's more than four decades of public service. Called "Salute to a Patriot," the tribute raised more than $1 million to endow the Montgomery Scholars Fund at the university.
Among speakers at the $1,000-a-plate dinner were novelist and Mississippi State alumnus John Grisham, former President and Mrs. George Bush, Secretary of Defense William Perry, and actress and Meridian native Sela Ward.
The original 30-minute video program on Montgomery was produced by the university's Television Center.
