A Mississippi State University freshman from Columbus is receiving national recognition for her creativity in graphic design.
Kristen E. Polk is among six whose entries received honorable mention in the 2000 Liliane Webb Art Scholarship competition. Other students honored in the category reside in Florida, Massachusetts, Nebraska, Texas, and Wyoming.
The annual competition is sponsored by the Society of Performers, Artists, Athletes, and Celebrities for Space Exploration Inc., a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to educating the public about space exploration and its benefits to humanity.
Titled "Separated," Polk's work features several images composited into a single imaginary celestial landscape. The computer graphic image was created on Bryce 4.0 software.
A member of the University Honors Program, Polk is pursuing degrees in art/graphic design and general business administration. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William T. Polk and a graduate of the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science in Columbus.
