MSU honoring lives with physical challenges

University Relations News Bureau (662) 325-3442 Contact: Sammy McDavid March 26, 2001

"Free to be You and Me" will be the theme Thursday [March 29] as Mississippi State observes 2001 Disability Awareness Day with a series of public programs in the Colvard Union lobby.

Sponsored by the Student Association and the university's Office of Student Support Services, the activities will begin at 10:30 a.m. and continue through the early afternoon hours.

"We will have booths showcasing local organizations and displays highlighting different physical challenges," said Kim Steward of Belden, the SA's director of disabled student affairs. "Also on the program will be individual speakers and a panel discussion.

"We are encouraging as wide a participation as possible by the campus and local communities," the senior secondary education major added.
