MSU Percussion Ensemble takes on the world next week

.--"Rhythms of the world" will be the unofficial theme of the Mississippi State University Percussion Ensemble's free spring concert Monday [April 23] in the Colvard Union ballroom.

The 7:30 p.m. program, sponsored by the music education department, will feature such selections as "Japanese Overture," "Mexican Folksong Suite," Big Yellow Mambo," and "Wabash Samba." Other compositions will include "Kabe," an African shaman's song, "William Tell's Canned Overture" and "Stick Schtick," a novelty piece molded after the work of the national percussion group STOMP.

Robert J. Damm, a specialist in the African musical heritage, is the ensemble's director.
