The achievements of a veteran mathematics and statistics instructor are being recognized by Mississippi State University's Division of Continuing Education.

Diane L. Daniels recently received the 2001 Outstanding Faculty Award for her contributions in distance education. A graduate of Southern Illinois University and MSU, she has taught trigonometry, calculus and mathematics for teachers in the independent study program for more than a dozen years.

"She has made a significant contribution to the program by offering hundreds of students an opportunity to learn mathematics away from the traditional classroom setting," said interim division dean Clayborne D. Taylor.

Separate from her work in continuing education, Daniels is a 20-year member of the department of mathematics and statistics faculty. In addition to courses in algebra, business calculus and calculus, among others, she also directs the department's summer developmental program.
