The National Institute of Standards and Technology is re-appointing a Mississippi State University engineering professor to its Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award board of examiners.
First named in 1999, Stanley F. Bullington will continue on the 400-member body, which includes American business leaders, health care professionals and other educators.
With headquarters in Gaithersburg, Md., NIST is an agency of the United States Commerce Department. The Baldrige Award is a memorial to President Ronald Reagan's first commerce secretary.
Congress created the honor in 1987 to help enhance American business and industrial competitiveness by promoting quality awareness, recognizing quality achievements and publicizing successful quality strategies. Applications for the honor are screened and evaluated by Bullington and the other board members.
In addition to teaching and research responsibilities, Bullington is the industrial engineering department's graduate coordinator, as well as co-director of MSU's Management Systems Engineering Laboratory.
He also serves as an examiner for the Mississippi Quality Award, which uses Baldrige Award criteria in its selection process.
Bullington, a member of the MSU faculty since 1987, holds bachelor's and doctoral degrees from Auburn University and a master's from Purdue University.
