MSU announces major dates for 2001 fall semester

Classes for the 121st fall semester at Mississippi State University begin Monday, Aug. 20--less than a month away.

Campus housing opens for residency at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10. For all who didn't attend the June sessions, orientation for new students is scheduled on the 15th.

Final regular fall registration will be held Aug. 16 and 17, with late registration continuing through the 24th.

Other major dates for the school year's first semester include:

--Sept. 3, Labor Day holiday [university closed].

--Sept. 15, Scholars' Recognition Day for top high school seniors, held in conjunction with MSU's home football game with Brigham Young University.

--Oct. 12-13, Homecoming festivities for alumni and friends, combined with Family Weekend programs for the moms, dads and siblings of enrolled students and "Discovery: MSU" activities (13th only) for prospective students, all held in conjunction with the Troy State University football game, also on the 13th.

--Nov. 22 and 23, Thanksgiving holidays [university closed].

--Dec. 3, last day for all new students to apply for 2002 spring semester admission.

--Dec. 14, fall commencement exercises.

New student orientation for the 2002 spring semester will be held Jan. 2, with second-semester classes beginning on the 7th. Spring commencement exercises will be May 11.
