MSU student outreach group to sponsor local blood drive

University Relations News Bureau (662) 325-3442 Contact: Maridith Geuder October 15, 2001

Mississippi State students are joining more than two million people nationwide Oct. 27 for Make-A-Difference Day activities.

Representatives of Mississippi Blood Services will be at the Winn-Dixie supermarket parking lot 10 a.m.-3 p.m. for a blood drive organized by student volunteers in the university's Outreach and Service Learning Center. The store is located adjacent to campus at the intersection of state Highway 25 and Blackjack Road.

The Jackson-based agency accepts blood from healthy donors who are at least 17 years old and weigh 110 pounds or more.

Established by USA Weekend magazine in 1990, Make-A-Difference Day is a partnership with the Points of Light Foundation, a national volunteer organization.

A part of the Division of Student Affairs and affiliated with the national Campus Link/Americorps program, the MSU outreach office has primary responsibilities for coordinating student volunteer efforts. In addition to promoting a variety of participatory services, it helps coordinate various service-learning opportunities.

For more information about the blood drive, telephone (662) 325-8471.
