CAFB jets to pass over MSU campus Friday and Saturday

University Relations News Bureau (662) 325-3442 Contact: Sammy McDavid October 26, 2001

To prepare for an aircraft flyover during patriotic pre-game festivities at Mississippi State's home football game with the University of Kentucky, two Columbus Air Force Base jets will make a practice run Friday [Nov. 2] over the university campus.

Between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m., the T-38 trainers are scheduled to travel along a south-to-north path over Davis Wade Stadium at Scott Field.

Built by the Northrop Corp, the T-38 is a supersonic craft powered by twin turbojet engines and capable of high-altitude flight. Featuring swept wings, streamlined fuselage and an exceptional safety record, the jet long has been used in a variety of military roles.

Columbus Air Force Base is home to the 14th Flying Training Wing, the United States Air Force's only undergraduate pilot training base east of the Mississippi River.

The Saturday [Nov. 3] ceremony in which the planes briefly are featured will precede the MSU Bulldogs' 1:30 p.m. Southeastern Conference game with the Kentucky Wildcats.
