A senior forestry major at Mississippi State is receiving a $1,000 scholarship from the university's chapter of the national forestry honor society.
Amanda L. Grau of Marion, Ky., is being honored by the campus members of Xi Sigma Pi. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Timothy Grau and a 1998 Crittenden County High School graduate.
Xi Sigma Pi was founded in 1908 at the University of Washington. The MSU chapter was chartered in 1971 and includes students and professionals in the forestry, forest products, and wildlife and fisheries departments.
Last year, Grau was named a national Morris K. Udall Foundation Fellow. The scholarship program was established by Congress in 1992 to honor the former United States representative from Arizona who led efforts to double the size of the national park system and triple the size of the national forest system.
Grau also is a member of Phi Kappa Phi honor society, Department of Forestry Undergraduate Curriculum Committee, College of Forest Resources Dean's Council member, and a Student Association senator representing the College of Forest Resources.
After completing a bachelor's degree in forest resource management and a minor in general business administration, she plans to pursue a master's in natural resource management, with a focus on conflict management.
