MSU institute hosts Web-based news program

University Relations News Bureau (662) 325-3442 Contact: Bob Ratliff March 08, 2002

A new Internet-based video program from Mississippi State University is keeping Mississippians informed about issues affecting the state's economy.

The recently launched "Mississippi Economic Report" is featured on the Web site of MSU's John C. Stennis Institute of Government [http://www.sig.msstate.edu].

The economic issues video is hosted by Phil Hardwick of Jackson. An economic development specialist and author, he works with communities throughout the state on economic development planning.

"The Mississippi Economic Report" seeks to provide individuals with a better understanding of the forces shaping the Mississippi economy, said Philip S. Pierce, Stennis Institute coordinator of research and development.

"The report will feature business and government leaders whose decisions and policies influence Mississippi's business climate," he said. "We also plan to have roundtable discussions with business journalists from throughout the state."

The first report was placed at the institute Web site earlier this month and features state treasurer Marshall Bennett. Those wishing to view the 20-minute report may do so by clicking on "The Mississippi Report" icon at the lower left hand corner of the Web page.

"A computer equipped with a video player is required to watch the program, but we soon will add an audio version for individuals with computers that lack the bandwidth for video," Pierce said.

Mississippi State's John C. Stennis Institute of Government provides research, education and outreach activities to state and local governments and promotes citizen involvement in the political process.
