STARKVILLE, MISS.--Chief Phillip Martin of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians was honored Wednesday by Mississippi State University. The tribe's elected leader for the last 25 of his 76 years, Martin used his selection as the College of Business and Industry's Leo Seal Jr. Distinguished Speaker to detail the ongoing economic and social renaissance at the 30,000-acre reservation in Neshoba and adjoining counties. College Dean Sara Freedman introduced him to a standing room only audience.
