A Mississippi State University associate professor of electrical and computer engineering is being honored by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.

Noel Schulz is receiving the IEEE Power Engineering Society Walter Fee Outstanding Young Engineer Award. The honor is presented each year by the international professional organization to a member of its Power Engineering Society who is 35 years of age or under "for outstanding contributions in the leadership of technical society activities."

The award, named for the late executive vice president of the Northeast Utilities Service Company, will be officially presented to Schulz at the IEEE annual conference in Chicago this summer. She will receive a plaque and $5,000 to go to one or more universities of her choice for scholarships.

Schulz, a native of Blacksburg, Va., will designate the award for scholarships for students in power engineering at Mississippi State and at Virginia Tech, where she received her bachelor's and master's degrees and the University of Minnesota, where she received her doctorate.

IEEE has more than 375,000 members worldwide and through its members is a leading authority in areas ranging from biomedical technology to aerospace engineering.
