Lynn Pruett

A Kentucky-based writer whose first novel recently was published will read from her work Oct. 23 at Mississippi State University.

Lynn Pruett, whose "Ruby River" was released last month by Grove/Atlantic Press, leads a 7 p.m. public program in 301 Colvard Union. Her appearance is the latest in the MSU English department-sponsored 2002-03 Visiting Writers Series.

Pruett's story about a widowed mother and the travails of raising four daughters in a small Southern town has received favorable reviews from, among others, Library Journal and Booklist. Commenting on Pruett's inaugural effort, novelist Lee Smith recently described the novel as "funny, smart, sexy, and full of heart."

Pruett has published widely in journals that include American Voice, Louisville Review and Southern Exposure. Her short stories also have been featured in several anthologies.

Currently teaching fiction at the University of Kentucky, she holds a bachelor's degree from Mt. Holyoke College and a master of fine arts in fiction from the University of Alabama.
