MSU 'Circle of Sisterhood' invites conversation, networking

University Relations News Bureau (662) 325-3442 Contact: Maridith Geuder September 23, 2003

.--"Circle of Sisterhood," a newly formed organization at Mississippi State, is inviting participation by women of diverse backgrounds and experiences, say its founding members.

"We will have a monthly brown-bag gathering to let women discuss family, professional and civic issues of interest," said Beatrice Tatem, staff psychologist at the university's Office of Counseling and Testing Services.

Co-sponsored with the Holmes Cultural Diversity Center, the monthly brown-bag luncheons will feature speakers from the campus and surrounding community.

Upcoming speakers include Monica Banks, chancery clerk of Oktibbeha County, Oct. 28; and Aretha Jones-Cook, director of the Holmes Cultural Diversity Center, Nov. 11. Both meetings will begin at noon in the Colvard Union faculty lounge. Beverages will be provided.

Tatem said the meetings "are designed to be a forum in which participants can network and offer encouragement while experiencing empowerment.

"While these programs hold special interest for women, everyone is welcome to attend," she added.
