Invitations are being extended throughout the region to attend Mississippi State University's special day for high school and community college students and their parents.
The annual "Discovery: MSU" program Sept. 21 will feature food, music, a football game, and lots of information on the university. The three-hour Academic Fair, which opens at 1 p.m. on the Drill Field, includes more than 50 college, school and departmental information displays and exhibitions.
The informal orientation program for prospective students will precede the football game between Mississippi State and Louisiana Tech University. The 6 p.m. contest at Scott Field will be Mississippi State's first home game of the 1996 season.
"'Discovery' is both a campus tradition and an excellent way for students to find out more about the university in a casual and fun atmosphere," said Jimmy Abraham, associate dean of student services.
Past "Discovery" programs have attracted more than 2,000 participants, he added.
In addition to the academic displays, information will be provided about admissions, on-campus housing, financial aid, cooperative education programs, and student organizations.
Registrants also can purchase special $7 tickets for the football game.
Free ice cream, popcorn and other refreshments will be provided, along with musical entertainment by Mississippi State students and faculty and the cheerleading squad.
