University Relations News Bureau (662) 325-3442 Contact: Maridith Geuder April 23, 1997

A state native whose first book has received national recognition is being profiled in a television visit with Mississippi State University president Donald Zacharias.

Brad Watson, a 1978 graduate of the university, is the featured guest for the monthly "Dialog." Zacharias is host for the University Television Center-produced program seen on cable MSTV-30.

The show will air Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. through May 6.

Watson's first book of fiction, "The Last Days of the Dog-Men," was published to critical acclaim last year. This month, it won the American Academy of Arts and Letters' Sue Kaufman Prize for First Fiction.

A faculty member at the University of Alabama, Watson recently was named Briggs-Copeland Lecturer in English and American Literature at Harvard University.

He recently visited Mississippi State as a panelist at the Southern Literary Festival, which was organized by the English department.
