University Relations News Bureau (662) 325-3442 Contact: Phil Hearn November 24, 2003

Measures to prevent high-tech cheating in the classroom will be the subject of a Mississippi State campus presentation Monday (Dec. 1).

Thomas Bourgeois, MSU's associate dean of students, will discuss the increasing number of instances of cheating facilitated by technological devices such as calculators, cell phones, personal digital assistants, or wireless computers.

He also will offer suggestions for preventive classroom management during his presentation, "High-Tech Cheating in the Classroom: Methods, Solutions and Discussion." Following the presentation, a round-table discussion will allow faculty to share their experiences and solutions.

The Brown Bag Lecture Series event takes place noon-1 p.m. in Room 1405 of Mitchell Memorial Library, and is sponsored by the library and the University Instructional Improvement Committee.

For more information, contact Ruby Licona at rlicona@library.msstate.edu or 325-8391; or Sara Morris at smorris@library.msstate.edu or 325-9347.

MSU final exams for the 2003 fall semester are Dec. 8-13. Fall commencement will be held Dec. 13 at 10 a.m., with U.S. Sen. Thad Cochran, R-Miss., as the scheduled speaker.
