An upper-level graduate student in counselor education and an undergraduate social work major are receiving the 2004-05 scholarships of Mississippi State's Faculty and Professional Women's Association.

University doctoral student Susan H. Eaves of Meridian and senior Brandy Johnson of Florence recently were selected for the $500 awards based on their outstanding academic records and demonstrated leadership. Both maintain perfect 4.0 grade-point averages.

A licensed professional counselor who earlier completed a master's degree at MSU, Eaves is president of the campus chapter of Chi Sigma Iota national honor society in counseling. In addition to academic coursework, she coordinates the College of Education's counseling and school psychology training laboratory and teaches at a local community college.

Her study of early childhood disorders, personality disorders and marital infidelity has resulted in several research manuscripts submitted for publication in national journals.

Johnson, the 2004 Mississippi's Undergraduate Social Work Student of the Year, has held leadership positions in the campus social work organization for students. She also is a President's Scholar and member of the Society of Scholars, campus order for MSU's highest academic achievers.

When not pursuing her studies, Johnson has volunteered with Starkville's Families First Resource Center and Even Start Family Literacy Program.

The Faculty and Professional Women's Association was created to address the avocational interests and concerns of its members. The organization also works to support female MSU students in realizing their career aspirations, among other goals.
