A special presentation Thursday and Friday [Sept. 23 and 24] by the campus improvisational group is launching the 2004-05 performance season of Theater: Mississippi State University.
With one exception, each of the year's six public programs in McComas Hall will begin at 7:30 p.m. Only the 2005 Student Showcase in April will begin at 7 p.m.
Theater: MSU is a learning collaboration of the MSU communication department.
In this week's "Script vs. Improv" show, the student Ironman Improv Troupe gives its humorous take on the works of various "dusty old playwrights." General admission is $5 for the program in the laboratory theater, which is located in the building's basement level.
The remainder of the season includes:
Oct. 14-16, "The Lark" by Jean Anouilh, adapted by Lillian Hellman, main stage theater. General admission, $10; MSU students and employees and senior citizens, $5.
Nov. 18, "Sails and Tales" by M.J. Euta, main stage theater. General admission to the children's production is $2; 10 years and younger, $2.
Feb. 23-25, "A Staged Reading of Edward Albee's Fragments," lab theater. General admission is $5. This performance is recommended for mature audiences.
April 7-9, "The Importance of Being Earnest" by Oscar Wilde, main stage theater. General admission, $10; MSU students and employees, and senior citizens, $5.
The April 27-29 Student Showcase in the lab theater will be a festival of student-written and directed one-acts, with a different collection performed each night. General admission is $5.
Also scheduled during the school year in McComas Hall will be the Dec. 3 and 4 North Mississippi High School Drama Festival and the Mississippi State American College Theater Festival. Shows, times and costs of the college theater festival will be announced later, as will the high school drama festival shows and times.
