Local Farm Bureau agency launches MSU scholarship program

University Relations News Bureau (662) 325-3442 Contact: Sammy McDavid November 12, 2004

Cody R. Anderson of Centreville is the first Amite County Farm Bureau Scholar at Mississippi State University.

The Amite County Farm Bureau recently established the annual award program to recognize and benefit local students attending MSU.

Anderson, the son of Bart and Connie Anderson, is a freshman poultry science major who also received a poultry science scholarship earlier this semester. A Centreville Academy graduate who initially attended Delta State University, he is a member of the MSU Poultry Club and Baptist Student Union.

"We created this scholarship because we felt it would be a great investment," said Mike Bridwell, the county's FB agency manager. "We wanted to reward loyal membership throughout the years and felt this would be something that would have lasting benefits."

The scholarship program has two tiers. Students like Anderson who are pursuing any College of Agriculture and Life Science major receive $3,500 annually. Those in other majors will receive a minimum of $2,500.

Applicants must be active Amite County Farm Bureau members who are graduates of any public or private high school in the county and now enrolled full time at MSU.

For more information on the county scholarship program, contact Jud Skelton, director of development for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, at (662) 325-0643.
