STARKVILLE, Miss.--A doctoral student in counselor education and a senior graphic design major are receiving 2005-06 scholarships from Mississippi State's Faculty and Professional Women's Association.
Yun Hui Gardner of Columbus and Lauren Beth Cavadel of Vestavia, Ala., were selected for the $500 awards based on their outstanding academic records and demonstrated leadership at the university.
A licensed professional counselor with a bachelor's degree from the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga and a master's degree from Johnson Bible College, Gardner maintains a perfect 4.0 grade-point average. Her research focuses on issues related to child sexual abuse and impaired counselors.
In addition to her own private practice and her academic coursework, Gardner has worked as a doctoral intern in her department's Counseling and School Psychology Laboratory, which provides counseling services to children and adults.
Cavadel, recently inducted into MSU's prestigious Society of Scholars honor society, also is a member of the University Honors Program. The President's List scholar has earned local and regional awards for her photography and graphic design.
The Faculty and Professional Women's Association was created to address the interests and concerns of its members. The organization also provides mentoring and support for female MSU students in realizing their career goals.
