A day-long workshop for educators on uses of computer-based communications is being offered Monday [Aug. 4] at Mississippi State University.
Sponsored by the campus chapter of the Mississippi Educational Computing Association, "TIMEFEST 97" will take place 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. in a big-top tent on the university's Drill Field.
The first part of the event's title is an acronym for "Technology Improving Mississippi Education," said Kay Brocato, an instructor in curriculum and instruction and an event organizer.
"'TIMEFEST' is designed to provide educators with an opportunity to explore and learn how to use different computer applications for professional and instructional purposes," she said.
During the morning, participants will receive individualized instruction on uses of the World Wide Web and electronic mail. During the afternoon, they will choose from among several specific programs for more specialized training.
Among the specialized topic areas are "Use of HyperStudio with the New Language Arts Framework," "WWW for Classroom Instruction," "Student Power Point Productions," and the "Mississippi Writers and Musicians Project."
Registration, which includes a $25-per-person fee, can be completed at the door prior to the morning session.
