STARKVILLE, Miss.--Two Mississippi State graduate students in counselor education are receiving scholarships from the university's chapter of Chi Sigma Iota national honor society.
Yun H. Gardner of Starkville and Susan W. Wright of Houston recently were selected for the $400 awards in recognition of their academic achievements. Gardner is pursuing a doctorate in community counseling, while Wright is seeking a master's degree in school counseling.
Chi Sigma Iota was established at Ohio University in 1885 to promote scholarship, research, professionalism, leadership, and excellence in the counseling profession. The organization currently has more than 260 chapters and 10,000 active members.
One of six in the state, the MSU chapter was chartered in 1987.
Gardner, who also works in user training with MSU's Information Technology Services Office, completed her bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga, and a master's in marriage and family therapy from Johnson Bible College in Knoxville.
Wright is a former Starkville resident and 1985 Starkville High School graduate who has resided in Houston for the past 16 years. A science education graduate of MSU, she presently is completing her practicum/internship with the Houston Public Schools.
