STARKVILLE, Miss.--A Thursday [Sept. 22] concert by internationally renowned Canadian guitarist Jesse Cook kicks off Mississippi State's 2005-06 Lyceum Series.
The Juno-award winning musician who blends rumba, flamenco and Moorish rhythms performs at 7:30 p.m. in the university's Colvard Union ballroom.
Tickets for the all-general-admission program are available at www.ticketweb.com or at the door. Prices are $15 for adults; $10, senior citizens (65 and over by request); and $8 children 3-12.
MSU students may attend at no charge with student identification.
"Free Fall," "Vertigo," "Nomad," "Gravity," and "Tempest" are among Cook's compact disc recordings, while the recently released "Montreal" is his only live album to date.
The Montreal, Quebec, resident has sold more than one million albums worldwide, earning platinum and gold records in the process. In addition to his native country, he has proved to be widely popular throughout the United States, Asia and Europe.
First interested in the guitar at age 3, Cook grew up listening to his mother's flamenco records, a significant influence on his later style. His high-energy performances typically result in multiple encores and often have audiences dancing in the aisles.
